This will be the first in what will likely be a lot of posts which I'll be calling "Comic Ramblings". Basically, they're posts which are relevant to Maid of Win, but don't actually include a new chapter or any kind of organized, intended-to-be-archived information like character profiles or setting notes. It makes it easier for the people who only want to see actual content to skip over the stuff that isn't relevant to their interests. These posts may have a bit of off-topic content as well, but I'll keep it to a minimum. I might make a nice banner or something for Comic Ramblings, just to add a little spice to the wall of text.
Thus far, this is what I have prepared for Maid of Win:
- Plenty of sprites for the 6 initial traps and a good chunk of sprites for Hirotaka.
- Some sprites for a handful of characters who haven't been introduced yet.
- Complete backgrounds for the cafe's dining hall (commonly referred to as "the floor") and kitchen, including furniture and most large appliances.
- The front view of the cafe's entire exterior, not including a yard or anything else that sits outside like waste dispostal bins.
- Draft scripts for a total of 6 chapters, in no particular order.
- An advertisement that Hirotaka puts on the internet and local newspaper, about working at the cafe. It'll likely be used for a page in one of the early chapters.
- Some setting info regarding both places, such as Maid of Win itself, and groups such as the Neiwa Mafia (which was mentioned in Hirotaka's character profile). I'm going to post the setting info once it becomes a little more relevant.
This is what needs to get done before I can finally start releasing actual chapters (at least the first "book" worth, let's call it), not counting unforseen circumstances where I need to stop and make something that I didn't realize I needed (generally one or more extra poses for a character):
- Additional sprites for Hirotaka and a few other recurring characters. The trap characters will also likely need additional sprites for extra outfits and whatnot.
- Sprites for "generic" characters which fill the roles of customers, pedestrians, etc. They still need to look relatively unique, especially since previous extras may be "promoted" to semi-recurring characters.
- More draft scripts (in particular, one for the very first chapter, for which I still need to decide on the main idea).
- A LOT more backgrounds...Hirotaka's office, basement, the upstairs of the house which includes 3 bedrooms, a den...and that's not even counting places OUTSIDE the cafe itself. There's going to be a school, a few other stores in the area...shutting up now.
- Sprites for miscellaneous "objects", let's call them...the cakes themselves, various dishes, cutlery, and other little things like that.
Plans for the blog (most of this stuff will take a back seat to tasks that benefit the comic itself):
- Keeping the character profiles page up-to-date.
- Adding the setting notes page and keeping it up-to-date.
- Making some more random images to spruce the place up.
- Collecting a series of links relevant to the subject matter, such as links to the traps' serieses of origin, some general trap-related places, etc.
As far as my schedule goes for working on this stuff...for the time being, it'll be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only (don't expect posts on those specific days, those are just the days I'm gonna get the hell off of Fallout New Vegas and do some damn work for this series). Monday to Thursday I need for job hunting and other various real life tasks, although I'll try to squeeze in what I can on those days too. Once I get the first chapter out the door, I plan on updating at LEAST monthly, if not bi-weekly. Before telling me, "Hey, this is a sprite comic, those usually update daily!", yes they do, but those are comic STRIPS, generally just 4 panels long each. These chapters are going to be the length of an average manga chapter; typically, manga chapters are a monthly release. Add that to the fact that I do everything (sprites, backgrounds, scripts, etc.) by myself, aaaaaannnnd....yeah. I can't make any promises as to when the first chapter will be out, but you can bet that I'll spread the word when it IS out.
